Geist Geld (Ghost Money) is the first ever memecoin, created in September 2011 by Bitcointalk user lolcust as a joke to mock the altcoin explosion.
It predates Dogecoin by over 2 years, making it verifiably the first ever "meme" cryptocurrency in existence.

- The entire design was a successful satire, not a failed project
